Its population is around 35 000, in an area of 1100 km2, one of the biggest municipalities of our country. Founded by Celtic tribes around IV a.C., it became a city many years later in 1524.

Its beautiful castle, the Santiago and Misericórdia churches, and the Jorge Vieira and Rainha Dona Leonor museums are a mandatory visit to get to know the town’s past.
