Small, but of rare natural beauty, Praia das Cabanas Velhas is located in a discreet bay on the south coast of the municipality of Vila do Bispo. It owes its name, most likely, to old seasonal dwellings that served the fishermen of the tuna fishing traps that operated there during the summer. On its eastern side is a pier cut into the rocky cliff, which served to moor barges carrying limestone blocks, extracted there and intended for the construction of jetties and breakwaters in the ports of Lagos and Portimão. Sheltered from the prevailing winds and tempered by marked characteristics of Mediterranean influence, it offers calm waters during most of the year. It is part of the Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina Natural Park.
Small, golden sand beach, somewhat narrow at high tide, with modest limestone cliffs, very eroded and jagged, where you can see numerous indentations and cavities resulting from the slipping of the strata that make up the rock. There are peculiar rock formations at both ends of the beach.
